LEGENDS 'N HERO'S with Spider Jones / 51 Views

About This Episode

In this episode, we pay tribute to the man who was the bedrock of rock and roll in Canada. Ronnie Hawkins, an Arkansas native with a larger-than-life personality, stormed the Toronto music scene in the late 1950s and never looked back. He turned Yonge Street into a rockabilly hotspot, playing a pivotal role in shaping the sound that would define an era.

Ronnie wasn't just a performer; he was a mentor. He famously assembled and nurtured a group of young musicians who would later become the legendary group, The Band. His bands, The Hawks, were a finishing school for some of the greatest talent to ever come out of Canada, including Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, and Rick Danko.

Join us as we explore the legacy of "The Hawk"—a true original, a mentor to the greats, and a hero of Canadian music. He was truly one in a million.
